WHAT'S GOING ON HERE?
A MULTIDISCIPLINARY PRACTICE FOCUSING ON INTERACTIVE SPATIAL VISUALS FOR MUSIC AND MARKETING, WITH A SIDE OF PRODUCTION.
I’m Mary Gouldsbrough, a Berlin-based video producer and visual artist working across video, animation, visuals and spatial media.
I’ve spent over a decade in the industry, starting out on blockbuster film sets in London (yes, including Star Wars) before moving into freelance directing, producing, animating, and VJing. I’ve shut down Electric Avenue for Samuel L. Jackson, produced socials for global brands, and spent far too many nights happily VJing in fields at festivals. Variety is the key.
My practice sits somewhere between production and playful experimentation. Some weeks I’m producing shoots for Getty Images in the DACH region & cutting socials for NASDAQ; others I’m building trippy animated loops, hand building paper worlds for music videos, or developing patches for live visuals performances or facade projections.
In 2025 I took part in the Video Mapping Summer School at ZKM Karlsruhe, contributing to an 11K projection for Schlosslichtspiele. This year I’ll join another residency with the Video Mapping Festival in Lille, continuing to explore immersive and spatial formats. I’m part of the team running VJ OPEN LAB, a Berlin-based platform where visual artists and musicians meet, jam, test ideas and exchange knowledge.
